Breaking down the Richt era in Athens

By now you've likely heard that Mark Richt is out as the head coach at the University of Georgia after 15 seasons at the helm.

The decision came after Richt, 55, led the Bulldogs to a 9-3 mark this season, including four-straight victories to close out the season.

The reason for Richt's firing was simple: He didn't win the big one and hadn't won in Atlanta at the SEC championship since 2005.

Since news broke Sunday around lunch that Richt was being fired, Georgia Bulldog nation has had mixed emotions of their coach's firing. Some like it because, as previously mentioned, he never won the national championship, while four other schools in the SEC hoisted the championship trophy at least once (all four -- Alabama, Auburn, Florida and LSU -- played in the title game at least twice).

Others were upset at the news, saying Richt did a well enough on the field to keep his job, to go along with his great mentorship he provided players off the field.

Regardless, Richt is out as the UGA coach. He will coach the team's bowl game and will move on from Athens, a place he has been serving since being hired in 2000.

Here is a look at Richt's career at UGA, by the numbers:

Wins: 145

Losses: 51

Sec Championships won: Two (2002, 2005)

SEC East championships: Five

Bowl appearances: 15 (including 2015)

Bowl record: 9-5

Losing seasons: 1 (2008, 6-7)

Current players on 2015 NFL rosters: 36

National championships: ZERO
